FTMO US runs on MetaTrader 5 only with a netting configuration. That means one position per symbol, FIFO behavior when you reduce it, and professional execution rules that mimic live conditions. Getting the right MT5 configuration saves time at login, prevents symbol confusion, and helps you manage risk precisely from day one.

Step 1 — Log in to the correct MT5 server
Desktop (Windows & macOS)
- Open MT5 > File > Open an Account.
- In the search box, type “OANDA Corporation” then click Find your company to reload servers.
- Select OANDA Corporation > Connect with an existing trade account.
- Enter your Login and Master password from the FTMO Client Area, then choose the server from the drop-down. Do not type the server name manually.

Mobile (iOS & Android)
- Open MT5 app > New Account / Add Trading Account.
- Search “OANDA Corporation” and tap it.
- Use the credentials from your FTMO Client Area, and pick the server from the list.
If servers do not appear, re-type “OANDA Corporation” to refresh the list. Read-only passwords won’t enable trading.
Step 2 — Load the right symbols and understand suffixes
In the US product, instruments are clearly labeled as simulated and many carry a .sim suffix (for example, EURUSD.sim, US100_current.sim). This keeps your watchlist clean and prevents mixing with other feeds you might have used before.
Add or show symbols in MT5
- Press Ctrl + M to open Market Watch.
- Right-click inside the list > Symbols > expand categories (Forex, Indices, Metals, Crypto).
- Click a symbol to Show or Hide. Then drag a symbol onto a chart to open it.
Contract specs, commissions, and trading hours per instrument are visible on the platform and on FTMO’s Simulated Assets page.
Step 3 — Set core platform preferences
Execution & charting conveniences
- Enable One-Click Trading: press Alt + T on a chart, accept the disclaimer.
- Turn on Trade Levels: Charts > Properties > Show trade levels to see entries, stops, and targets.
- Right-click a symbol > Specification to view tick size, commission, and sessions.
MT5 server time is GMT+2 with DST. If you display session boxes or use time-based indicators, align them to this server time.
Risk defaults that help you pass
- Use a fixed % risk per trade (for example 0.5%–1.0%) set in your order panel or a script.
- Respect the product’s 1:33 max leverage when sizing positions; margin equals ~3% of notional on selected instruments.
- Keep your daily loss far from the max daily threshold by capping total open risk.

Overnights and weekends
You may keep positions open overnight, unless the instrument has a defined expiry. There is no day/night margin change.
Platform choice
FTMO US is MT5 only across Evaluation, Free Trial, and Rewards Account. You cannot switch platforms mid-process.
